Onboarding Wizard

After creating your account, the onboarding wizard walks you through connecting a voice provider so you can start building agents. The entire process takes about 2 minutes.

Step 1: Welcome

The first screen welcomes you to BuildVoiceAI and gives a brief overview of what you’ll set up. Click Get Started to continue.

Step 2: Choose Your Voice Provider

Select the voice AI provider you want to use. You can add more providers later, but you need at least one to get started.

Click the card for your preferred provider to continue.

If you chose the Managed service model during sign-up, this step is handled automatically and you can skip ahead to the dashboard.

Step 3: Enter Your API Key

Paste your API key from the voice provider you selected. Here’s where to find it for each provider:

Retell AI

  1. Log in to your Retell AI dashboard .
  2. Go to Settings → API Keys.
  3. Copy your API key.

Vapi

  1. Log in to your Vapi dashboard .
  2. Navigate to Organization → API Keys.
  3. Copy your API key.

Bland.ai

  1. Log in to your Bland.ai dashboard .
  2. Go to Settings → API.
  3. Copy your API key.

Paste the key into the input field and click Continue.

⚠️

Keep your API key secure. BuildVoiceAI stores it encrypted, but you should never share it publicly or commit it to version control.

Step 4: Verify Connection

BuildVoiceAI tests the API key by making a quick validation call to the provider’s API. You’ll see one of two results:

  • Success — A green checkmark confirms your key is valid. Click Continue.
  • Failed — A red error message indicates the key is invalid, expired, or the provider is unreachable. Double-check your key and try again.

Step 5: Sync Your Data

Once the key is verified, BuildVoiceAI automatically syncs your existing data from the voice provider:

  • Agents — Any agents you’ve already created in the provider’s dashboard are imported.
  • Phone Numbers — Phone numbers purchased through the provider are imported and available for assignment.
  • Voices — The list of available voices is fetched and cached for use when creating agents.

This sync typically takes 5–15 seconds depending on how much data exists in your provider account.

Don’t have any agents or phone numbers yet in your provider account? No problem — you can create everything directly from BuildVoiceAI.

Step 6: Dashboard Ready

You’ll see a confirmation screen with a summary of what was synced:

  • Number of agents imported
  • Number of phone numbers available
  • Your connected provider

Click Go to Dashboard to enter the main BuildVoiceAI interface.
